Weather Proofing, Security and the Sunflex SF25 Frameless Glass Stacking System with Euroglide and EuroJamb

The Details You Never See Make All the Difference

It is easy to admire a frameless glass system when the sun is out. The views are uninterrupted, the patio is filled with light and the boundary between inside and outside all but disappears. Then the weather changes and South African rain does not always fall politely downwards, and coastal wind has a habit of arriving halfway through lunch - the system has a rather serious job to do.

This is where the engineering behind the SUNFLEX SF25 with Euroglide becomes the most important.

A common assumption is that thicker glass or larger aluminium profiles create better weather protection. In reality, the difference comes from many smaller details working together: how the panels meet, how tightly they seal, how water is managed within the track and how the complete system closes.

Most of this engineering is barely visible once the SF25 is installed. That is rather the point.

The system keeps its slim, minimalist appearance while the seals, profiles, tracks and drainage channels do the hard work behind the scenes.

Because while rain is lovely to watch through glass, it is considerably less charming once it reaches the sofa.

What Does the Euroglide Handle Actually Do?

One of the most important additions to the SF25 is the Euroglide Handle and EuroJamb.

At first glance, it is simply a beautifully designed handle and framed panel. Engage it, however, and it does considerably more than lock the leading panel.

In one movement, the Euroglide gently compresses the complete system, drawing the panels together to create a tighter and more consistent seal across the opening. Continuous H-weather strips positioned between each glass panel are compressed as the system closes, improving protection against wind, rain and draughts on both the inside and outside of the glass.

EuroJamb works alongside Euroglide, giving the closing panel a secure pocket to slide into.

This slim pocket sits within the centre of the side frame. When the panel slides in, it creates a tighter weather seal and adds rigidity and stability to the complete system. That extra support is particularly useful in strong winds and heavy, wind-driven rain—the kind that makes you briefly reconsider your enthusiasm for coastal living.

Euroglide draws the panels together; EuroJamb receives and stabilises the closing panel at the side frame. Together, they create a firmer, better-sealed enclosure.

There is one detail to settle at the planning stage. EuroJamb is only suitable for an SF25 that opens to one side; it cannot be used with a two-way opening system. How you want the panels to open and stack will therefore determine whether it can be included.

Where Does the Rainwater Go?

The Euroglide is only one part of the weatherproofing. A tighter seal is only part of effective weather protection. Water also needs somewhere to go.

The SF25’s slimline aluminium profiles give the system its structural strength without creating heavy frames around the view. They are designed to cope with the demanding coastal conditions found across South Africa, where salt air, humidity and strong winds are simply part of the package.

Below the panels, precision-engineered tracks include discreet drainage channels. These manage rainwater within the system and direct it away before it has the opportunity to move into the living space.

A Firmer Closure Does More Than Keep the Weather Out

The EuroGlide compression mechanism also enhances security. When locked, the handle-operated compression mechanism compresses the opening panel firmly into the frame and repositions the runners from the alignment with the upper track of the system, making the door secure and prevents the panel from being forced open while the system is locked.

The added rigidity and stabilisation with the EuroJamb on the other panel creates an even stronger system, less airflow through the system and makes the system virtually impenetrable through the tough frame the glass is neatly fitted into.

Combined with the SF25’s toughened safety glass, double-locking mechanism and keyed access from both inside and outside, the system delivers practical everyday security while maintaining panoramic views and effortless access.

A Patio You Can Use Beyond Perfect Weather

The real benefit of the SF25 is not simply that it closes off a patio. The difference tends to reveal itself later: during the first heavy storm, after years of daily opening and closing, or when a strong coastal wind arrives halfway through dinner.

That is when the parts you barely noticed at installation begin to earn their place.

It makes that space more comfortable and usable when the weather is less than ideal. With the panels closed and Euroglide engaged, the compressed weather seals and drainage system help protect the enclosed space. On installations with EuroJamb, the closing panel also sits securely within the side-frame pocket, providing additional stability when conditions become more demanding.

Draughts are reduced. Wind-driven rain is better managed. Outdoor noise is reduced. During colder weather, the tighter closure also helps the enclosed space retain warmth more effectively.

Your patio does not suddenly become a sealed winter cabin. It simply becomes a calmer, more comfortable space in which to sit, entertain or watch the weather without having to participate in it.

And when the weather improves, the individual panels slide, turn and stack neatly out of the way, opening almost the entire space.

That flexibility is what makes the system so practical. Good engineering should not constantly demand your attention. It should simply work when you need it.

Preferably before anyone has to rush outside and rescue the cushions.

Engineered for Everyday Comfort

  • Euroglide Handle: Compresses the complete system to create a tighter, more consistent weather seal.
  • EuroJamb: Receives the closing panel within a slim pocket in the side frame, improving weather sealing and adding rigidity and stability. Only suitable for SF25 systems that open to one side; not compatible with two-way opening configurations.
  • Continuous H-weather strips: Improve protection against wind, rain and draughts between the glass panels.
  • Slimline aluminium profiles: Provide strength and durability without unnecessarily interrupting the view.
  • Integrated drainage channels: Manage rainwater within the track and direct it away from the living space.
  • Reduced outside noise: Helps create a quieter, calmer interior environment.
  • Improved thermal comfort: Reduces draughts and helps retain warmth during cooler weather.
  • Slide-and-turn operation: Allows the individual panels to open and stack neatly.
